Matthew Fox 6 & 7 April

Matthew Fox at St Agnes Church 6th and 7th April

“Matthew Fox might well be the most creative, the most comprehensive, surely the most challenging religious-spiritual teacher in America.” Thomas Berry

Matthew Fox is in the UK for about 10 days end of March early April. He will be speaking at two events on Good Friday and a workshop on Easter Eve, at St Agnes Church.

St Agnes Church, St Agnes Street, North Reddish, Stockport SK5 6RA. The church is located about 1.5 miles from Junction 24 M60 / M67.

Matthew Fox is a radical theologian, spiritual activist, and founder of Creation Spirituality. As an activist Fox’s interests have been the renewal of education and of religion. He established the Institute in Culture and Creation Spirituality that flourished for 21 years until Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) silenced Fox and eventually shut down the program and expelled Fox from the Dominican Order of which he had been a member for 34 years. Fox then founded his own University in downtown Oakland, the University of Creation Spirituality.

Fox is recipient of the Abbey Courage of Conscience Peace Award (other recipients being the Dali Lama, Mother Teresa, Ernesto Cardenal and Rosa Parks), the Ghandi King Ikeda Award, the Tikkun National Ethics Award and other awards. He is currently visiting scholar at the Academy of the Love of Learning in Santa Fe, New Mexico and lives in Oakland, California.

He has written 30 books that have been translated into 43 languages and have received numerous awards. Among them are Original Blessing, The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, A Spirituality Named Compassion, The Reinvention of Work, The Hidden Spirituality of Men and Christian Mystics. He has contributed much to the rediscovery of Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart and Thomas Aquinas as pre-modern mystics and prophets.

In the modern age we have developed knowledge, but at the expense of wisdom. The result has been ecological disaster and destitution, with a loss of meaning and shared values in our lives. We need our spirituality to bring wisdom back to us and to refresh our yearning hearts. Matthew Fox will explore how we can awaken to our divine origins so as to become transformative agents of healing and wholeness in the 21st Century.

This two day event provides a rare opportunity to learn from one of the world’s pioneers of consciousness. We will share in practices that awaken spirit in us, explore the wisdom found in the spiritual traditions of the world and learn from mystics past and present.

Matthew Fox is one of the foremost spiritual teachers and conference leaders in the world. He is author of 30 books including “Original Blessing”, “The Coming of the Cosmic Christ” and “One River, Many Wells”. He has devoted his career to unleashing suppressed mystical and life-affirming traditions within Christianity and other faiths – calling on each of us to worship from our common heart.
